“House for a Garden” is an innovative approach to urban living, redefining the archetype of high-rise residences by integrating natural environments into everyday living spaces. The design aspires to create a vertical neighborhood where each residence is an island of serenity, a green oasis high above the bustling city of Singapore.
By incorporating loggias and out-buildings, the design extends the axes and spaces of the central court, seamlessly connecting them with the surrounding landscape. These architectural elements serve a dual purpose: framing the towers and establishing a harmonious relationship with the land.
The two side wings, dedicated to pedestrian traffic, play a crucial role in defining the forecourt, which is reserved for vehicular traffic. This clear separation ensures functionality and enhances the overall organization of the space. Moreover, it creates a distinct boundary between the forecourt and the garden area.
The narrowness of the site becomes an advantage, accentuating the intricate topography and allowing for a multidimensional design of the various access paths. This emphasis on the site’s unique characteristics adds depth and complexity to the overall architectural composition.
The tower’s architecture is characterized by a series of stacked ‘garden houses’. Each floor is designed as a standalone residence, with a private lift lobby leading directly to a lush terrace garden. This garden forms the heart of each residence, around which the private and public living spaces are organized.
Each level of the tower is a single residence, allowing for expansive living spaces. The design emphasizes indoor-outdoor living, with each unit boasting a generous terrace garden as its primary arrival space. This garden serves as a seamless transition between the exterior and interior.
Each residence is thoughtfully designed with a combination of windows and sliding glass doors, maximizing natural light and offering panoramic views of Singapore’s skyline ensuring both an abundance of natural light and a sense of privacy. The use of glass further blurs the boundary between inside and outside, enhancing the feeling of living in a garden.
