A new hotel and high end apartment tower in Xi’an, the most complete walled city remaining in China. Historically the villages were built of stone within the wall and during modernity most buildings were solid concrete framed structures with punctured windows. Currently the building height restriction in Xi’an is 100m, however client/government discussions are indicating a new build height of 180m. The design proposal is intended to express these historical cross sections of the city. A stereotomic mass (hotel) with structural facade up to the current building height regulation, with a light weight tectonic structure accommodating the apartments above the 100m mark.
