The new location for Nabi Art Center is situated just outside of the old city center of Seoul. The intimate residential area brings a lot of quality, to which we try to respond in the building design.
The humble scale of the building above ground communicates with the surrounding architecture and encourages specific use. The large part of the building underground can house an exceptionally flexible program.
The rooftop is like a world in itself; a small village within a larger setting, supporting the building below and potentially providing it
with ideas, additional space for outdoor events, and green spaces for various programming.
Due to the sloped site, parts of the roof are very close to the street level and allow interaction. Where the site is lower the ground floor level and even the basement opens up to the façade. They allow natural light and ventilation into the building and visual connections between inside and outside.
For this specific location, a building asks for a delicate design with careful programming, in order to fit into the surroundings and bring something new.
